So, today I woke up in
the morning with so much JOY after that conversation from last night with my
mom (read about the conversation here CLICK HERE ).
Our ministry contact,
George, was about 30 minutes late picking us up. No big deal, we were able to
spend some intentional time with the Father.
The four of us doing
evangelism this month are Rebecca Price, Kenzie Kelly, Betty Gomez, and myself (each pictured below, left to right, minus the Romanian teens. Oh, and you can click on their name to read each of their blogs.)
We all hoped into
George’s van and headed out on our hour plus ride to the town we were going to
evangelize in.
We were on the road for
a while and George was a little confused. So, we do a U-turn in the middle of a
road in the middle of nowhere. As we are doing the U-turn, a HUGE semi starts
to come at us and it was not slowing down. We were freaking out. A little
scary, but no big deal we made it out safe.
We found out that we
were supposed to pick up our other ministry contact, Mircea.
So we head back down
this road in the middle of nowhere to a gas station where Mircea was waiting
for us.
He jumps in with us and
we go on our way to the village.
George is on the left, and Mircea is on the right, both chatting about ministry for the day.
We get to an
intersection in the road and George and Mircea flag down this cute little old
man to ask him questions. I’d tell you what they were talking about, but they
were talking in Romanian so I have no idea what they were saying.
We pull down a little
alley next to the intersection and George tells us we are here.
He explains to us that
we are going to take our tracks (books that share the gospel) with us and we
were going to go pass them out in the village, but that we were going to do
this…ALONE.
Number one, none of the three of us speak Romanian.
Number two, we were going to be alone in this random
village off in the middle of nowhere.
Number three, we had George’s phone number, so we
felt okay.
So, the four of us start
off in prayer for the Holy Spirit to just intercede on our behalf as we go out
and speak to these people.
We head around the
corner and encounter that cute little old man that gave George directions.
Our little old man had a
friend, so were ended up talking to two men.
We were talking to them
in our broken Romanian trying to explain to them that we did not understand
Romanian and we only spoke English or Spanish (as crazy as it sounds some
people here know Spanish very well).
I’m not going to lie I
was standing there cracking up laughing.
I could not believe that
this was my life.
That these two elderly
men were literally standing before me and I was to share the gospel with them
when I barely knew how to say hello.
This is my life.
We walk down this road
encountering many people sitting outside of Magazin’s (stores) drinking
alcohol, or others walking or in a horse & buggy going about their day, or
others just wondering around town.
We pass out the tracks
to everyone we pass by.
We tell them things like, “Hello,” “we don’t
understand Romanian,” “we only speak English,” “Jesus loves you,” and “we are
from America.”
That is about the extent
of our knowledge of the Romanian language.
Although some of us like
to joke around when Romanians are speaking and act as if we are translating the
language.
As we were walking up
the road we had several encounters with people where we just smiled and handed
then the tracks.
We were able to love on
some children that live in buggy’s with their families.
As we were continuing on
the road, we found the center of the little village and sat on some benches.
Kenzie was wanting a soda so her and I went on an adventure to find Sprite.
I had to use the
restroom really badly.
Like, really badly.
We go into this magazin
(store) and I was saying how I wanted to use the restroom, but did not know if
that was possible in this little village.
As we are looking for a
Sprite, a guy walks in who speaks English.
It
was a divine appointment from the Father.
He
gave us free hot chocolate and rum chocolate bars.
I shared with him my
need to use the bathroom, and he was confused and thought I needed to shower. Hahaha
He then proceeded to ask
his mom to show me to the bathroom.
So, I walk into his
parents’ house.
Through many doors, as I’m
leading the way.
And finally get to the
bathroom.
It was a beautiful western toilet waiting for me.
My Father loves me!
When I arrived back to
the store, Kenzie and him were having a very intentional conversation about the
Father.
It was such a divine appointment from the Father!
We exchanged business
cards and continued on our way so he could spend time with his family.
We went back to the
benches near the center and random people walked up to us asking questions.
One man in particular
was sitting talking with us.
We told him we didn’t understand
anything and for him to call the number in the track.
He proceeded to say “George”
and we thought that he had already met George at some point in time.
We find out that he had never met George before, but
somehow knew his name. The spirit interceded and showed told this man of
George!
As we were sitting
there, this man started handing out the tracks to passerby’s.
He started sharing the
Jesus that we came to preach.
It is a very humbling
experience when you literally don’t know the words to speak to someone, but the
Father intercedes and speaks for you.
This day was one of the most random days ever for me.
Although we were not
able to speak the language, we were able to share Jesus to these people.
I have noticed that literally smiling at people can
change someone’s day.
I have seen people with
very down looks walk past me and then I see joy on their faces as I share a
smile with them.
There are no language
barriers when it comes to a smile, praise the Lord!
Every single day here
has been different and every single day has been a blessing from the Father
with the ability to share His love.
