article written about The World Race in my Universities newspaper, The
Triangle.
This article is awesome for many reasons. Read on
and I will explain post article
Missions Around The World
By:
Allison Broucek
Ever wanted to travel the world? Do something
amazing like backpack across a variety of countries just once? Well, even if you
have never had the opportunity to do these things, a former student here on
campus has.
Brandi Wilcox, graduate of Trine in December of
2011, is one of the fortunate few that have had an experience that some would
call life changing. Wilcox has a degree in accounting and a minor in finance.
She is also an active member of CCH on campus. Most of us know her, however, as
the awesome girl who works in the cafe! Sadly, she will be leaving at the end
of the school year, but for an amazing opportunity she has been waiting for.
Once July rolls around, Wilcox will be embarking on
a journey of a lifetime to 11 countries in 11 months. She will be part of a
movement called “The World Race” through an organization called Adventures in
Missions which is based in Georgia. She will have the opportunity to live out
The Great Commission from Matthew 28 by going and making disciples of all
nations by sharing about what God has done in her life.
Her missions trip will lead her to the following
countries; Bulgaria, Romania, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Thailand, Malaysia,
Cambodia, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala.
While on this adventure of a lifetime, Wilcox will
be able to show her love of Christ by building churches, evangelizing
door-to-door, fighting human trafficking, caring for the homeless, teaching
English in schools, ministering through prayer, preaching in the streets,
living with gypsies, providing orphans with homes, reaching out to prostitutes,
and feeding the hungry.
“I was led to go on The World Race after I spent
summer ’11 in Nairobi, Kenya serving the urban poor of the Mathare Valley. In
Mathare, there are over 850,000 people who live in the area of three football
fields. God broke my heart for His people in the slums so much that I want to
serve long term in the mission field. God has called me to go on this trip to
see if one of these countries or if one type of ministry is prominent in what I
should do after the race,” Wilcox stated.
As a part of going on The World Race, Wilcox has
been support raising since she committed to go in September. She has a need to
raise $15,500 and so far she has raised $8,300. Students and workers at Trine
have played a large role in sending her on this trip as well as others and she
is very thankful for that. Wilcox has also been able to conduct two fundraisers
so far where she is selling t-shirts and Threads of Hope bracelets. The
t-shirts are being sold for $20 and they will be on sale until April 15th and
the bracelets have a variety of prices. Also, the bracelets were made by women
in the Philippines and when Brandi sells them, it helps to keep them out of
prostitution, which is very prevalent in their society.
After taking the time to tell me about this great
experience she will soon be having, Wilcox tells me what she is most excited
about when this trip finally comes. “I am most excited to abandon the American
dream and seek after God’s will in my life. To forget about the materialistic
society that we live in. To see God move in countries around the world. To be
the Hands and Feet of Jesus.” She says.
Wilcox is thankful for everyone’s support and
encouragement here on campus. This trip of hers, along with all the new
adventures and experiences she will have, really does sound like it will be
life changing. We wish her good luck on this once in a lifetime encounter.
