As many of you may know, I graduated from Trine
University in December of 2011. In
3 ½ years I was able to be a first generation college graduate. My degree
is a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a major in
accounting and a minor in finance. Here’s a picture of my diploma, just so you
can “visualize” it.
I am MORE than excited to have a college degree. For
me, this is a HUGE accomplishment in my life. I have been able to get my
college degree on my own, with the help of Christ, of course. Granted, I do
have several loans which have been taken out, but other than that, I have accomplished this dream on
my own.
Many people ask me, so what are you going to do with your degree?
Haha, well funny story… (which is never really a funny
story, I just always say that…) I actually don’t plan on using my accounting
degree as of right now. For the last two summers, God has affirmed to me that I am to be a full time
missionary. Whether this uses my degree or not, only time will tell. I
found out last summer in Kenya that I can very well use my accounting degree
with ministry, but as of right now with WR I don’t see myself using my degree.
To be completely honest, accounting is not my forte and I do not enjoy
crunching numbers as much as I thought I would.
The next most asked question is… Why did you get a degree in accounting if you don’t like it?
Coming out of high school I really enjoyed my three
semesters of accounting that I had, but once I came in to some upper-level
college classes my passion was wayyyy gone. Since being in college, I have found Christ and I have
realized that my passion to share Him is much greater than anything else in
this world. Once I realized that I did not like accounting as much as I
thought I did, I decided to just stick with it since I was already in the end
of my sophomore year. There is no other major I would have been semi-interested
in here at Trine and I could not have imagined leaving my “Trine family.” In
sticking with getting an accounting degree, I knew I would be able to save
myself $15,000ish dollars by graduating a semester early. Rumor has it, that it
doesn’t really matter what you have a degree in anyways.
Another common question is… Why are you still in Angola, IN?
I like to think the answer to this question is another
question, “Why not?” Well, a part of my testimony is that I do not have an earthly,
permanent home. By this I mean that I do not have a home other than here in
Angola. Most college students have a place that they still call “home” other
than their dorm room, but this girl does not. Angola, Indiana is
HOME to me. In making the decision to stay
here in Angola, I am able to have a home in the CCH Girls House as well as
still be around all of my friends that have become more like family to me.
Next up… What
are you doing until you leave for The World Race in July?
Let me first say that God has provided for me in HUGE
ways. I have three jobs lined up post-graduation (if you include WR). Two weeks
ago, I started working in the cafeteria on Trine’s campus full time. I’ll be
working 40 hours a week, and have the opportunity to be around a great group of
coworkers as well as all of my college friends. Starting April 30th-ish,
which is one week shy of the day I would be out of a job in the cafe, I will be
working full-time as a babysitter. God’s perfect timing was in this opportunity because the family I will
be babysitting for will be able to have someone babysit up until I start, when
I leave for training camp in May, and when I will need to leave for the race in
July. Then, once the babysitting job is complete, I will leave for The
World Race sometime in July, exact date still TBD. Over the course of the next
few months, I am going to be able to save up for my personal expenses that will
incur while I am on the field. Also, I will be able to stick around Angola up until the day I launch!
I am PUMPED
to be able to visualize and see God’s provision in my life so far for The World
Race and life before I leave.
I am PUMPED
to get going with more fundraisers and going hard-core with support raising.
I am PUMPED
to share Jesus around this WORLD.
I am PUMPED
to share in this adventure with you reading this.
I am PUMPED
to have you in my life.
Thank you for your continued love and support of the ministries
that the God of this Universe has called me to.
