Luke 11:33
33“No one lights a
lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead
he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. 34Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good,
your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is
full of darkness. 35See to it, then, that
the light within you is not darkness. 36Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part
of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines
on you.”
So I was
reading this scripture and it did not make all that much sense to me. I get it, you put a lamp on the table and the
light shines. If you put the lamp under
the table it can not be seen by many.
The
part that throws me off is when Jesus says your eye is the lamp of your
body! What does that mean Jesus? So I stop myself and pray. I say, “God your word says that it is given
to us to know the mysteries and you spirit delights to reveal Himself and the
scriptures.” I also remind myself that the
scriptures say one day I will know even as I am fully known. I proclaimed that god wanted me to have a
deeper revelation of this verse, and I got it.
To me
there is a very simple picture Jesus is painting here. Jesus is saying be careful what you look at
it affects you in deep ways. If you are
looking at bad things you will reap bad things inside you! In contrast, if you focus on good things the
light will dwell within you. And the
word says that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not
overcome it! That is truth!
In addition,
I believe there is a spiritual law at work here. If you put a lamp on a table it illuminates
the room much better than if you put it under a table or basket. I believe the same is true with our
eyes. If our eyes are the lamp to our
body then they are what illuminate for us…. You ask yourself how is that possible. I say to you, “our eyes illuminate the path
of the things unseen. Therefore, when we
chose for our eyes to be good and pure a door is open. Our choice to peer at or stare at things that
are not pure defile not only our natural eyes but our spiritual eyes as
well. Jesus said,
MATTHEW 13
“Though seeing, they do not
see;
though
hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of
Isaiah:
” ‘You will be ever hearing
but never understanding;
you will be
ever seeing but never perceiving.
15For
this people’s heart has become calloused;
they hardly
hear with their ears,
and they have
closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with
their eyes,
hear with
their ears,
understand
with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a] 16But blessed are your eyes because they
see, and your ears because they hear. 17For I tell
you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but
did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

I like the part where he says
you will be seeing but never perceiving.
For this peoples heart has become calloused. When we see something horrible for the first
time it is horrible. But after we have
seen it a hundred times it does not bother us as much! Our hearts indeed have become callous! We can chose to not stare at the world with
lustful eyes! We can chose purity and
ask God to give us eyes to see and He will be glad to respond!
Luke 11
9“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For
everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door
will be opened.
11“Which of you fathers, if your son
asks for[f] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12Or
if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13If
you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask
him!”
Here is what I am saying, if we
chose to keep our eyes pure God will open our eyes to see things unseen! We will be able to see brokenness, pain,
sadness, joy, love, angels, demons, and maybe even God Himself.
Let us press in to God
Let Him squeeze you until you are
shaped like his heart
