God has been teaching me many things down here at CGA with Adventures in Missions. One of the things, I find so fascinating is studying people. When I speak in front of crowd of people or at a party, I love to watch people. God made us unique in His own image. This is pretty awesome! For the body to function as one in Christ, it takes everyone with their uniqueness to be brought together to function as one body working together.
A few weeks ago, Neil had us email three questions to four different people to answer for us. All of the questions were on a scale of 1-10. A rating of one would be really low and a 10 would be really high in the areas. I had two squad leaders, squad mentor, and someone on my squad who is not wired like me to rate me on the following areas. All four of my people answered all of the questions about me.
The three areas were:
1. Self-Awareness (an awareness of one’s personality or individuality)
2. Identity in Christ (who someone is, the qualities, beliefs, etc. that make a particular person different from others)
3. Desire to Grow (are you willing to take constructive feedback? Do you want to become a better person?)
The Picture above shows in the top left area what I rated myself in the three areas. There are two other CGA apprentices who are M and R. I asked for what they rated me in the three areas. In the top right corner is the average of all four people who I asked to answer my questions by email.
The results were pretty accurate of where I am at right now. My highest average was for a Desire to Grow at an 8.5. On the World Race and right now , I had a huge desire to grow into the Man of Christ He wants me to be for Him.
The next was Identity in Christ. On this my four people rated me an 8 out of 10. This made me feel really good about the growth Christ has done in the last two or three years in this area! They rated me higher than I did in this area. Lately, I sometimes can’t see my growth as well as other people can because I think I’m getting firmer in who I am in Christ.
The one I scored the least on was Self-Awareness. The four people gave me a 5.8 out of 10 in this area. I shared this study with the class when Neil asked some to share.
To be honest, I love playing volleyball on Sunday afternoons with people at AIM. I am a very competitive person when it comes to sports, Monopoly, or card games. I like to win because I’ve experienced too many losses the majority of the time. Most people see me as a friendly person. Sometimes when I play sports or games the Hulk comes out of me which is something I am working on right now. There have been times where I have gone up to the net and jump up aggressively to try to imtimidate another shorter person when I am on the front line. I’ve even said before without thinking, I do what I want on the court. I say this in a way where this comes out like Peter cutting an ear off and then Jesus says Put the sword away Peter!
I do have accountability from my guy housemates and when I play volleyball some have even spoke up when I am starting to become like the Hulk. Stay Strong Blake. Hang in there.
I have a desire to grow in all areas, especially in how I come off to people and being more self-aware before I act. Pray for Me and if you’re around me call me out if you notice me not being self-aware on things.
Thanks for your support and God Bless!
