On the World Race the same holidays occur in life just as before the World Race did while being in America or Cananda. The calendar doesn’t go away just because of The World Race. Obeying God’s calling means celebrating Holidays away from the family and friends back at home. To be honest with everyone one of the reasons I choose a January Route (Summer Route) is because my favorite holiday is Christmas! Christmas is the best time of the year for celebrating the birth of Jesus, seeing family and friends, baking Christmas Cookies, and seeing everyone happy! I’m glad God said yes to me going with M-squad on January 2013 because if I had to miss Christmas I be a little bit pissed off at God. The ones who obeyed to go on the World Race on a July or September route I give you a thumbs up!!
Now I will give some tips out which are short and to the point to make celebrating a holiday fun with the WR community around for Thanksgiving! The tips can be used for celebrating Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, July 4th, Valentine’s Day, and any other holidays I may have forgotten in this blog.
Tip #1- Skype, facetime, Magic Jack or email the family!! (if you have any internet access at all and try to do this on USA/Canada time) Hearing from my family meant so much to me on Thanksgiving when I spent this in India. Now my family talking about ham, mashed taters, and green bean casserole wasn’t cool because I missed them and the food but I loved hearing their voices while they were in the rush of having Thanksgiving supper.
Tip #2- Make sure to have plans to at least spend with your team or even better if as a squad if there’s anyway to get together and have everyone eat a meal together this would be awesome!! We ate KFC for our squad Thanksgiving meal! To me it wasn’t so much about KFC as it was about having all 50 of us together as a family!!
Tip #3- Spend some time with friends on the squad!! Go out and make an adventure out of the holiday!
This is how I spent my Thanksgiving away from the USA on The World Race:
I went out with about half our guys in the morning and went to Mr. Boss to buy a custom suit for our final debrief banquet in India!!
Had the whole squad together for Thanksgiving which was fried chicken, fries, and pop (soda)!
Went out to dinner with some of my WR friends to McDonald’s for supper!!
Rode in tuks-tuks (autos) to an awesome night market in India!
Make the most out of the holiday on the WR!
Tip #4- Make sure you or someone you’re with during the day has a great camera and make some memories out of the holiday!!
I am sure their are more tips but I wanted to keep this short and sweet for current World Racers and future World Racers!
Merry Christmas!!
