Hello all!
Yes, I will be going to cool new places and meeting new people and having new experiences but in no way is this a year long vacation! I have not been called to be a tourist but to further the kingdom and spread the love Christ has given me and many others. A few reasons why this is not a vacation:
1. I am not escaping real life and or being comfortable
The world race is as real as you can get. We are becoming the hands and feet of Jesus out in the world and to do so we are to live like him with minimal baggage. This entails us to live out of backpacks and sleep on the ground plus eating on a budget of less than $5 dollars a day. We as racers have no problem with it as we are there for The Lord, not the comfort and familiarity of home. I will still have to battle demons in the field like I would at home.
2. The Race is not a way to make more friends
Don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to meeting my squad mates and doing life with them every moment of every single day for a year. However, what I am most looking forward to is the community we will be building. Jesus calls us to live in community and grow together. I do not just want to be “friends” but I want to be Intentional with the relationships we create as a team to help us all grow in our own relationships with our heavenly father.
3. I am not going to want to stay the same
I want to change. I am looking forward to God challenging and breaking the hearts of myself and my teammates. I want to come back to the states changed for the better.
4. This trip costs more than a vacation!
This is where I need the body of Christ and my community! Raising this amount of money plus money for gear is extremely scary yet He has constantly told me that I cannot do this alone and I need the help of him and others.
