I’ve pretty much decided that Jesus sends me angels. The one for this month came to me in the supermarket. Her name can’t be disclosed at this time, but I have a great picture of her. Her name will be Angel in this blog and its quite fitting, because that is what she’s been in my life.

Our second day here we did our shopping and weren’t expecting anything out of the ordinary. Angel approached my teammate Bethany and I while doing her shopping. She began asking us why were visiting Israel and started recommending things we should do while we’re here. Angel’s son was with her and he gave us c.d.’s of his sister’s music and struck up conversation with us. She finished paying for her groceries, put everything else aside and helped us shop. They told us what labels said in Hebrew, showed us the sales and recommended the best things to buy. I was amazed by her kindness. She spent about an hour with us, helping us shop and she didn’t even know us. She told us that she had “been praying for us for 25 years to come here and now we’re here.” I couldn’t believe how grateful she was to meet us and spend time with us. We told her we wanted to try falafel and she quickly recommended a restaurant nearby. Angel offered to drive us over and did so right after leaving the store. We jammed out to her music, laughed and talked about how grateful we were to have her help us. She told us she had things to do and couldn’t stay with us for lunch, then her son piped in saying, “I want to have falafel with them mom.” Within moments of him asking her, she was pulling her car in the spot and getting out to eat with us, saying “whatever I had to do, can wait, you’re here.” Angel treated us to lunch that day and I was just blown away and I totally started crying. She told us how thankful she was to have met us, and kept inviting us over for soup. We promised to get in touch with her and make plans to meet again.
Since that day she helped get us to Galilee, helped our teammate get to the hospital and had us over for lunch today. I’ve never seen someone so excited to host us! We had lentil soup, hummus, pita, veggies, chai tea and cinnamon cake! We listened to music and stories about family and life in Israel. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect meal and family to spend it with. I kept thinking, would this happen in the states? The hospitality and love that was shown to us, undeserving and in abundance. I am humbled yet again and blessed beyond belief. I just hope and pray that I can pass this along whenever given the opportunity and when I get home, because its truly priceless. Thank you my Angel in Arad, you’ve shown me Jesus in such a tangible way!

Hebrews 13:2

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”
