It was our last night in Budapest, Hungary and a few of us decided to prayer walk the city and reach out to prostitutes. We knew prostitution was legal and that many churches reach out. We also wanted to bring some light to the darkness. Caitlin, Bethany, Heather and I were joined by our hungarian translator, Viktor, a precious man of God….
We started out..worshipping, praying and ready to bring kingdom. We walked in the cold, to the metro station. We had walked for 45 minutes to experience Jesus in a powerful way. We approach the entrance to the metro station and I hear Viktor say, there she is, there is the one. There she was standing all alone, with sadness all over her face. My heart broke for her.
We asked her name, she said “Viola.” We prayed we wouldn’t put her in danger and asked to buy her tea. She said yes, and we bought her hot tea, and spoke words of life to her. Then we had to step back for her protection. We watched and prayed from a distance and her struggle became very real to us.
I looked back at her standing there all alone and thought. How are we any different? The Lord responds, you’re not. I am no different from her.
MERCY!!!! Its by His Mercy that I’m here on this journey….He showed me His Mercy!!!
Walking away from her, I knew…her and I were no different.
We came back changed, changed by the Love of God.
Angered by sin, and how it destroys people’s lives,
Broken with compassion for a woman that God has created
She asks, how does Jesus love me and I don’t have warm shoes?
We don’t know what to say…we’ve failed…, no God has overcome the world. What do you do after an experience that breaks your heart? You tell the story. You humbly ask to be more like JESUS.
I can’t be the same after an experience like this. I must obey God, and live fully for Him. He has saved me from so much and revealed himself through the life of a prostitute. God has love for her!
I need to be on my face in humility. I need to be living my life in gratitude and never look down on anyone, based on what’s outside. Jesus always looks at the heart.
