What do you get when you have a group of foreigners, a
beautiful apartment, and Chinese college students?
A jammin’ party!
We had our weekly party. Not only did Eric come, but about
30 other college students.
I was busy going around playing hostess, and making sure
that everyone was having a good time and making sure the food and snacks were
always available for them to eat.
Lot of conversations went on that day. Eric was able to talk
to Derek a lot more about the gospel of Jesus. Some good stuff!
Towards the end of the party we had an impromptu talent
show. There was Korean pop singing, Chinese harmonica playing, and Korean
bellyish type dancing, done by my good friend Kang Sung Il. It was pretty
hysterical, and everyone had a great time that night. Some of us made ‘dates
with some of the students for the upcoming week. I made one with Cindy to
practice piano, she plays piano for the church.
Why are Jake and Steph so adamant about going to English
Corners, and having parties?
Well, as Jake so vividly expressed, with the use of a
makeshift funnel…their goal is to reach a very large and broad variety of
people at first, which is the top of the funnel. Then take that large group of
people , and make an invite to a more personal setting, like a party, which is
the middle of the funnel. And then take that smaller amount of people who come,
and make more personal invitations to church, or study the Bible with them, or
share about Jesus with them. That is the bottom of the funnel…the few who are
searching for the truth of Jesus, out of the large crowd.
I thought it was a little weird asking students if they want
to study the Bible, at first. But the more I talked with them, and the more
comfortable I became with their culture, the more I realized how hungry they
are for knowledge, and for learning.
Several students are eager to study the Bible and learn more
about Christianity because they are searching for something more than what they
know. And many of them are hesitant to become Christians until they know
everything there is to know about Christianity.
That is something I most definitely do not know.
But it’s a great opportunity to explain the basics of what
Jesus teaches, and dive into what this crazy thing called faith is all about.
The Bible gives a clear explanation of what faith is. (Hebrews 11:1)
Yea… Jesus is pretty illogical most of the time.
I see it as searching two ways…Either you accept that you
won’t know it all, or stay stuck in misery trying to figure it all out.
