O.K. So I´m at a much safer and less crowded internet cafe today in San Juan. I am going to be in this city for the next three weeks serving the people around it. I have video I want to post, but that takes a while for me to edit and create ( plus electricity is the POWER here, literally, it shuts off and on whenever and for however long it so chooses to) But ´m hoping to get a video up by the end of the month to share with you all.
Originally the plan was for us to go to mountainous villages, but the plan has changed (a lot of things change on the world race, and it´s all good). On a side note.. our route changed. We won´t be going to Turkey for safety issues, we´re not sure which country will replace it.. but perhaps Albania, Serbia or another ia….But that won´t be till Sept or October… Right now, we will be serving around here in the city. There are 46 world racers in one house (which has electricity and running water..yay!), that has only four bedrooms, and three showers. The video will show more of that.
Interesting facts about D.R. so far..
Cars here often use two way traffic streets as a one way street when there are no cars coming in the opposite direction.
Mostly everyone is on a moped, even families. Saw a moped with a 4 year old, older man, and woman.
The Supermarket, in the part of Santo Domingo where we were staying at, looked like a Walmart, and had guards. It was pretty empty. It was a very poor part of Santo Domingo we were staying at, so most of the people there couldn´t afford the things inside.
Toilet paper does NOT get flushed into the toilet.. So lots of mellow yellow in the bowls… yuck..
The mountain view from San Juan is breath taking.
The children are extremely kind here. The guys get a little annoying (with all the hollering), but there are some that are very warm.
The food and the music are, of course, amazing!
My broken up Spanish has been helpful here. And it´s not been so much of a culture shock for me, because I´m familiar with the culture and language. I can´t wait to start serving here though. I just met two girls on the street, Pamela and Stefani. They gave me and another teammate flowers. They were precious. And I got to tell them that they are princesses.. Princesses of King God.
It´s taking a while to upload photos here, so I can only post a few. If you check out my teammates blogs, on the bottom left, some will have pics to put up too..Here are some of my pics..
This is what we looked like in the airport going to the D.R. (and what we´re gonna look like in every airport we are in)
Sorry I couldn´t post more pics.. the connection is super slow for that. I´m hoping to come back another day and post the rest. But please feel free to check my squadmates blogs as well. You can find our squad on theworldrace.org and click the bubble on the big map on the top right, the half that ´m in is the D.R. half.
Love and Miss you all! Please continue to keep P Squad in yoru prayers. Also one of my teammates Mari, is not fully funded. She is AMAZING! and such a breath of fresh air, and stability on my team. Would you pray about supporting her financially? Her link is on the bottom left of this page. She has been a HUGE blessing to me already.
Love you all! Till next blog
May the ears of your heart be wide open to Truth,
