The World Race staff set up a couple more activities that helped us bond as a squad, and prepare us for life in different cultures:
1. All of us ladies were victims of a plane crash, and needed to get our entire 50 ladies up a hill in 15 minutes… then a second time in 8 minutes… oh, did I mention that some of us were unconscious, had a broken leg, a broken arm, were blind, were contagious and couldn’t touch anyone, and mute?…. needless to say that was an awesome sight, seeing how we all bonded together, and helped each other where the other lacked.
2. We were Christians in a “closed country” (being the field), where being a Christin gets you killed. We had to secretly find our family during the day (when the blow horn blew the first time) protect our pastor, and decide which people we could trust to get us to our church… and by night (when the blow horn blew the second time) we were prisoners inside our homes (black mats), not able to go out, being harassed, and verbally put down by the government’s police. Others got caught and were put in “jail”, yelled at, spilled ketchup and all other yummy sticky foods on.
It really gave us all a little taste of the fear and danger persecuted Christians around the world face. Lord be with our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. I will be going to two closed countries on the race, China, and Turkey. It will be a privilege to meet believers there, and share God’s love with others who are hungry for truth.. can’t wait..
3. Our squad was divided into two groups.. the tribes people, and the missionaries. I was a tribes person, which was AWESOME! In our culture, the men held hands and kissed on the cheek to show friendship, and us ladies head butted, slapped each other on the backs and heads to show our affection. And if we REALLY liked someone, we spit water on their face. Oh.. one last thing… Jesus was a HIGHLY offensive word to us, and if said to us, we smiled, shook the person’s hand and walked away… oh.. and we also worshipped the sun.
It was interesting when the “missionaries” first came.. They were terribly confused… but then they started to understand our culture.. and I got spit on! wohoo! and head butted! It was sheer love! They then began to teach us about “the God who is bigger than the sun and how he (insert headbutt) us”
Us 74 P- Squaders got separated into our teams of 7 people. I have my team.. Team S.O.L. (Servants of Love) and boy has God been working in me, just with that… But this work surpasses training camp and pours right into my life here and now, and forever… so the chronicles of training camp have come to an end..but not the wrecking..
It is a beautiful wrecking that is being done…and one that He will get all the credit and praise for.
