Last week I was scratching my head a lot and Allison asked me if my head was itchy. I told her yes and that had been itchy, but thought it was just dry. After I took a shower I had Miranda check my hair to see if I had lice and it turns out that I did have lice. I was so nervous that I was going to have to shave my head in order to get rid of all the eggs since there were so many of them. I told my team that I had lice and they recommended soaking my hair in listerine for a couple of hours or putting mayonnaise or butter in it and letting it sit over night. I told our contact, Edna, my situation and that I was going to walk to store with Miranda to get some listerine. She said that she was going to town and would be by a grocery store so that we could with her to buy treatment for my hair. We went to two pharmacies in search of lice treatment shampoo but did not have success in finding the shampoo. We then went to the grocery store to buy listerine. When we got home I let the listerine sit on my hair for five hours. This caused of the eggs to turn blue. That afternoon Alyssa, Miranda, and Allison picked out eggs and approximately two lice in my hair for 3 or 4 hours. They picked out so many. That night I put butter on my hair and slept with it on all night. I hoped and prayed that it would kill all the lice I had in my hair.
In the morning I washed the butter out of my hair and had Alyssa check my hair again. When she checked there were still so many eggs in my hair and both her and Miranda picked out the eggs for 2 hours. I was discouraged because I just wanted them to all be gone and felt like I was burden to them. They loved me so well by picking out the lice eggs and it meant so much to me. That night I did the butter treatment overnight. I was hopeful in the morning that there would be no more eggs and they wouldn’t have to check my hair again. I had Miranda check my hair for me and there were still eggs in my hair. She picked out all she could that morning. My hair was so dry from all the washes and I was really questioning if I should shave my head and be done with it. It ended up being our day off the following day and Allison had made an appointment to get a pedicure at a salon. I decided to go with her to salon and see if they they had a lice treatment. They did!! The hairstylist put a mask on my hair and put me under heat. It felt like I was getting a facial for my hair. After she rinsed my hair she blow dried my hair and said she got it all out. I was again very hopeful wanted to believe it was all gone. I had Alyssa check my hair and she only found one egg. I couldn’t believe it!! When we were sitting down at the grocery store I had Allison check my hair again and she found some more eggs. Every morning I have been having members of my team check my hair to see if I have any left and they have found a few every morning.
Through this trial I have been learning that I need to daily surrender my worries and fears before the Lord. He is my constant and will always be there for me when I am down. I have also learned that I need to lean on others when I am struggling with something and its okay not to have it all together. My team has shown me they love me by picking out the lice in my hair when they could be doing something. I feel like it has really bonded us together and caused me to lean on them more. It so important to put other’s needs before our own as believers and they have demonstrated this so well. Love these girls so much for there patience with me and my situation.
