Preparation for this trip has been a roller-coaster of emotions, both good and bad. While these emotions are ever changing like the wind, one thing remains constant; God’s faithfulness. Preparation for this trip has been more time consuming and stressful than I ever imagined. On top of the demands of the academic world, and trying to keep up; I have noticed how easy it is to forget about all the financial needs that need to be met in order for me to stay on this team. Through the grace of God and everyone that has decided to support me, I have raised $3,615!! PRAISE THE LORD! I am almost 30% funded with 4 months left until my trip. It is such a humbling experience and I’m overwhelmed with gratitude towards all my supporters. I can’t tell you all enough how much I appreciate you all!!
Although $3,615 seems like a lot of money, I still need to raise $8,876! When those emotions of fear and doubts start to surface, I’m reminded just how big and powerful God really is.
I’m reminded of the story in Matthew when Jesus provided food for thousands, multiplying the five loaves and two fish.
“When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.” ~Matthew 14: 13-21
Although food and money are not the same thing, God WILL provide for my trip. $8,876 is pocket change for Him and I know that He will provide every dollar through the generosity of those that believe in the need to reach out to the poor. The Lord knows that my complete motivation is to help those that are lost, in need, and suffering. He has called me for His work, and He will provide.
Thanks to the generosity of many, I was able to raise over $800 at a yard sale last month. I am also planning on having a fundraising dinner sometime in June to help with my trip, so stay tuned for the details! Thanks again everyone!!
With lots of love,Bethany
