So I’ve been in Costa Rica for over a week now and it’s been a little crazy. I’ve gotten in a fight with a barbed wire fence (the fence won for the record), I busted my butt on a river rock, and my team mate accidentally hit me in the head with shovel handle (no worries no bruise). I’ve also encountered a few angry ants. Ok lots of angry ants. Thankfully only a few have decided to munch on me. Oh and I’ve also sang at a Costa Rican Funeral. Yep. in mostly English while the Spanish version was playing in the background in front of a packed church.

I’ve also talked more about relationships and marriage than I think I have in my whole life. Our hosts are so cute. They are a couple in their sixties and so in love. They prayed even before we came for our safe travel, hard work and husbands for all us. Well they want us to be able to find husbands. To clarify. It has been interesting to see their take on family, marriage, and relationships.

I was also told that I would be the first out of our team to get married. We’ll just have to wait and see about that. However, I am the oldest of team so it’s possible. Just gotta find the right groom. One of the questions/advice that Don Tony gave us today about men or relationships “Ask yourself ‘Are you closer to God than you were before? if not then the relationship is not for you.”

I’ve been thinking about that every since he said that a couple of hours ago. Really you should ask that question about just about everything. Going back to some questions we were given at training camp they all kinda tie into together. Does it glorify God? Are you closer than you were before? Was it a good idea? I have more questions than I have answers but I know it’s all in his hands. And thank goodness for that because I was allowed to use a machete…to do lawn work.

Anyone that knows me, knows that sharp objects are not a good thing for me sometimes. I don’t know why but anyways so far I’ve been given a machete, a pick axe, kitchen knives, shovels, and a hoe. I’m getting pretty handy with the knives. Rosita says we can’t have good husbands without learning to cook. We have passed the test but Lindsey nearly burnt the house down today cooking the rice. Thankfully Rosita saw it and caught it before the rice was ruined. It’s a strange experience cooking with a propane range.

So it’s been a strange crazy ride so far. I’ve done a lot of different things. I’ve swam in a volcano hot springs, I’ve deep conversations about marriage and other stuff, I’ve laughed a lot, cried some, and miss my family like crazy but I’m learning to love these people.

P.S. I can now operate a washing machine and a microwave in two languages. I don’t know if I should put that on my resume or not but I’ve got skills
