So, as is customary, here are the pictures from a great month in Cambodia. As I stated on my last blog, I primarily taught 3rd grade and every subject at that, which turned out to be a blast and really did some good for the children. Our teams took and excursion at the beginning and end of the month, first off to some temples and memorials around Battombang then we ended in Siem Reap so of course we did the Angkor Wat, et al experience as well. I hope you enjoy and thanks to everyone for sharing in the journey.
This picture is a memorial to those killed during the Khmer Rouge near Battombang. It is definitely a reminder of such a dark history and something to never repeat or forget.
The Cambodian countryside from atop where the killing caves were. The country is very flat, as you can tell.
On Matt, Jackie, and my last day, the school decided to take a field trip to some local ruins to teach about history.
Of every picture, this one is definitely my favorite. Many thanks to everyone who is still teaching these great young minds, and we all enjoyed our time with you.
This is sunrise outside of Angkor Wat as you can see in the distance. I left most of the other pics out so you will have to come see for yourself!
Most every entrance way and all of the walls had very detailed carvings that all looked similar at the different temples we visited.
This temple was one we passed, but there was a high density of them around the area.
This picture is cool because the “tomb raider” temple as shown here is being reclaimed by nature. It is pretty awesome how nature integrates itself with the architecture and will ultimately return it.
So that is the run down, and obviously that is a small summary of what has been a really fun month (minus the flu). The people of Cambodia could not have been nicer and while getting around can be a little raw, it was definitely a place I will look back on with a smile. I am happy to say through your efforts there was some real good that took place here and you have my many thanks for letting me be a part.
