At the end of our month in Nicaragua, the whole squad came together for our month 8 debrief. Karen Hall, one of my squad mates, felt that we needed to get together and pray for people who either needed a physical healing or wanted to operate in their gift of healing. I attended this meeting for both purposes. In Costa Rica, month 7, I hurt my right shoulder while playing volleyball. At first, I knew the pain only occurred when I played volleyball, but I continued to experience pain even while riding the bus or just lifting items. We were now at the end of month 8 and I was tired of this pain.
Once everyone had assembled, we each presented our ailment was then began praying for one person at a time. We started praying for Kate Houston, one of our squad leaders. While we were praying for her, I felt this intense heat on my right shoulder. I immediately knew that God was beginning to heal me before anyone had laid hands on me or even knew my issue. Once it was my turn, I told the group what was hurting. We prayed and God healed me completely! I haven’t felt any pain in my shoulder since that evening. I am so thankful and in awe of all the many miracles that followed.
Brianna Lomas, my new team leader, has been battling Rheumatoid Arthritis for 7 years. She hadn’t experienced any pain thus far on the race, until 2-3 hours before she even knew about the evening of healing when she began feeling pain in various joints throughout her body. As she was sharing, I knew in my spirit that she was going to be healed completely! We laid hands on her and began to passionately pray and intercede for our sister in Christ. Her body would jolt uncontrollably but we knew that it was God’s healing power flowing through her and ridding her of every bit of RA that resided in her body. It was a marvelous display of the power of God to still heal, even today.
She is HEALED!!
There was more where that came from! God delivered one of my squad mates from a spirit of confusion. Another, from guilt and shame that they had carried from an accident that happened in the past. An injury which occurred that morning, during our 5k, was instantly healed that night!
We shouted and danced in worship, to our Father in heaven, for the marvelous things He had done!
In that moment, I realized, that all God wanted me to do in Costa Rica was to step out in boldness, obedience, faith and watch as He did the rest.
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
James 5:15-16
I will never forget that night. It is etched in my brain as a glorious four hours that transformed the way I see God’s healing power at work. To see my squad mates operating in their gifts from the Holy Spirit was fantastic!
So if you are wondering, “Does God still heal today?”.
My answer is yes, He does. Sometimes He just wants us to step out in boldness, faith and trust as He does the miraculous.
Are you ready?
