Hello from Zimbabwe!
I just wanted to post a mini update now that I am safely at our month nine placement with my new team, Ivy.
We left Bulgaria Monday morning for our longest travel day yet, which included walking to the train, a plane ride to Qatar, a one hour hotel stay in Qatar to shower, a plane ride to Johannesburg, a train ride to a bus station, a overnight 14 hour bus ride to Zimbabwe (complete with a four hour border crossing at 2 a.m.), a four hour bus ride to Kadoma, and our wonderful new host picking us up at a random gas station the bus driver dropped us off at.
By the end, our team was exhausted, which made arriving at our new placement SO much sweeter. Although the Race continually teaches us to have no expectations, sometimes we can’t help but paint a picture for the future months. All our visions for Zimbabwe were completely shattered when we arrived.
Our host has a beautiful guest cottage with over 15 beds, a modern kitchen, two bathrooms, a pool, kayaks, a dog for cuddling, and even a little bush baby. The camp we will be working at has another beautiful pool, high elevation rope course, and plenty of places for quiet time with the Lord. There is also a lot of coffee. We are definitely World Race spoiled this month!
We all came into Zimbabwe expecting to be sleeping on floors again and to not have western restrooms, so it was a sweet surprise to start our new team in such a peaceful place. We even had a few adventures our first day, like kayaking down the river at sunset, visiting the bush baby, and holding our host’s small snakes.
Ivy is so excited to start work at the camp in the next week, so please be praying for our ministry and our hosts. We do not have much wifi this month, but I hope to blog at least once a week.
Thanks for your prayers!
