My team and I are now safely in Albania and loving the change of pace. We had a 40 hour travel day from Thailand to Albania that included a memorable layover in Rome! We are still recovering from jetlag but are excited to be paired with another team for ministry this month.
As a final goodbye to Asia and insight for future Racers, I compiled a list of things I love about Asia as well as things I’m okay with leaving behind in Asia.
Things of Asia I will miss:
Fresh fruit
Scenery when driving through the rice fields
Smoothies
Exercise equipment randomly installed in parks and sidewalks
Hospitable people- we always felt welcomed into the homes we visited!
Dancing at church events
Christmas decorations everywhere- even in May!
Palm trees
Rain showers that last for hours
Fruit patterned clothing
T-shirts with English words that make no sense
My dog friends- Aka Max and Rocky
Chai
Kiddos running up to us shouting “Teacher! Teacher!”
Our hosts always offering us more food- “Eat more!”
Really strong coffee
Gecko watching
Curry
Things of Asia I won’t miss:
Bathrooms where the shower and toilet are in the same area
Always walking out of the bathroom with wet feet
Spiders and insects
Squatty potty
White Rice
So many people taking pictures of us in public or strangers always asking for selfies- I sometimes needed privacy
Expecting all Americans to be experts in all areas
Being asked about Trump
Being asked if I am married
Being asked why I am not married
The humidity
Dust
All clothing sizes being way smaller than in the US
Lack of cheese
Goodbye Asia! Despite the list of “I won’t miss” I hope to be back again someday.
