You know you’re in Thailand when…

  1. The food is spicy…really spicy.

  2. Most of your food comes from street carts (and it’s awesome!).

  3. You aren’t allowed to touch people on their head (it is considered the most sacred part of the body and it is considered an insult to touch it).

  4. You aren’t supposed to show the bottoms of your feet to people (the feet are considered the lowest part of the body and showing someone the bottoms of your feet is equivalent to the middle finger).

  5. When you greet people the youngest person greets the oldest person first and you put your hands together and bow your head slightly.

  6. The bedroom that you share with 11 other girls looks like a fan store because everyone has a fan by their bed.

  7. You sweat all of the time (unless you are in front of a fan, see point above).

  8. Thai people get confused and then laugh at you when you try to speak Thai because you didn’t use the right tone.

  9. The crotch of your pants is by your ankles (see photo below).

    Thai Pants!!!

  10. You can eat crickets off the street.

  11. Mo-ped, Tuk Tuk, and truck drivers always stop to offer you a ride.

  12. People say things are the same when they are really different (ex. “The bus is brown. The bus is white. Same same.”).

  13. When you go to a movie, before it starts you stand up and pay respects to the King.

  14. People often ask you if you’re pregnant or “Why you fat?”

  15. All of the clothing you see can only fit an American toddler.

  16. Everyone smiles at you (Thailand is called the Land of Smiles).

Thailand is wonderful! The people, the food, and the country are all wonderful. 🙂
