…Livin’ on a Prayer
Christmas Day marked the half-way point of my World Race mission trip. A lot has happened even since then, so let me fill you in.
My team left Rwanda on January 14th as five, and met up with the rest of our squad at the Jinja Rafting Resort just outside of Kampalla, Uganda. Due to the fact that our squad had now lost fourteen people who returned home for various reasons, there was a need to look at restructuring teams. To my initial disappointment, my team was one to be broken up and regrouped.
Take My Hand…
This is now my new team, under the leadership of Kate Hughes:
- (Me)
- Val Youmans
- Erin Olson
- Sarah Ruplinger
It’s been a hard adjustment to start completely over, but I am ready to get to know my new team better and see what is in-store for us this second half of the ‘race’. After team changes were made, our squad was able to get some R & R in Jinja, and then headed out to our Ugandan ministry sites with our new teams.
…We’ll Make it I Swear
My group is working in a village just outside of Kampalla called Bunamwaya, and staying with the pastor and his family. This month is a little bit more limited with no running water and scattered electricity but we e
ach have our own bed which is a beautiful thing.
Pastor has seven biological children, but also opens his home to many orphaned children as well, so it is a full house. Everyone is very friendly and I’m excited to get to know their family better. I wish I could tell you names and numbers, but really, I am still trying to wrap my head around who is who, if they live here, and if they are actually related to pastor. I may never get to the bottom of this mystery…ha.
Our ministry this month looks like it will be a lot of door-to-door evangelism, working in children’s church, visiting hospitals, and speaking at schools when they start up in February.
…just livin’ on a prayer!
