Glancing Back
The Asha Mission Children's Home is currently located in the Bijwasan neighborhood of New Delhi, India and operating at a max capacity of 35 children.  Now let me give you a little history on the place.

Five years ago a man by the name of Babu John started the Emanuel Orphanage in New Delhi.  He was pulling all kinds of kids off the street, housing close to 400 orphans.  These kinds of numbers are unheard of for one place.  The authorities were not receptive to it and persecuted him until her was forced to leave the country.  Now Emanuel flies under the radar with 19 orphans and an attached Christian school that over 300 students attend.

Present Day
Asha Mission Children's Home was then started as a sister orphanage by Babu John, and run by the Sharma family.  Babu lives back in the United States, organizing the sponsorship of each child.

Contrary what you might think, most of the children at Asha are not technically orphans.  There is only one truly orphaned child there named Asha, meaning “Hope”.  The rest of the children have parent(s) that cannot afford to take care of and/or educate them.  Some of the mothers are living in leper colonies taking care of their parents, while others are working in brothels or living on the streets.  The possibility of children being dragged back to “work” at these brothels is a constant worry, especially as they get older.

A Brighter Future
Each child here at Asha has a sponsor that enables them to get the education, housing, and Christian upbringing that they deserve.  The kids are so fortunate to be placed in such a loving environment, where the Sharma family treats each child like their own.  However, the house is small and the kids share beds, sleep on mats, or up on the roof each night.  They are also lacking yard space for them to run around and just be kids.

Fortunately, from this problem stems new opportunity.  There is a plot of land in another part of Delhi that Asha Mission is considering purchasing.  It would enable them to build a larger house and have a fenced-in yard for the kids.  Another perk is a Christian pre-school right across the street that the younger ones could easily walk to without having to dodge alley-way traffic and cross busy streets.  As is the current situation.

Earlier this week we got the chance to visit this plot of land and pray for God to provide the support necessary to make this purchase possible, should that be the best route for Asha.  It would mean a lot if you would hold this organization in your thoughts and prayers this next month as they zero in on decision-making time.  We will see what the future brings!
