There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to the World Race.
It has come up a lot as I begin to make appointments for immunization shots, cancel phone lines, gym memberships, car insurance, lease agreements, and prepare to leave me job.
People want to know what we're up to!
So, as I try to explain the situation without over-informing, [or turning it into a "Becca-story" as my friends would say : ) ] I tell my friendly customer service representative that I'm going on a missions trip, where we'll be living in 11 different countries, one month at a time, and YES I would like to cancel my ANYTIME FITNESS membership because NO there will not be a gym within 30-miles of where we are staying. (for those of you who aren't familiar, they don't let you cancel unless you can prove they can't serve you in your new location).
The immediate response is "Oh cool – sounds like an awesome trip!…" and I can hear it in their voice that their mind is envisioning something like this…. Misconception
When in reality, this is not the side of Romania, or any
other country for that matter, that we will be surrounding ourselves with. Instead, we're jumping right into the messy stuff, where we'll discover the heart of these foreign cultures. Our story is going to look a lot more like this…Reality*
Okay, now you can say it, "Oh cool – sounds like an awesome trip!" Just know that we (and when I say "we" i mean YOU and ME and my July2-Crew) are in this together to bring aid to the beautiful people of this world who are just wanting to live . Just waiting to be loved.
*This video footage, while taken in Central America, is similar to the work we wil be doing at an orphanage in Bucharest, Romania. The name of the Romanian Orphanage is called, Casa Shalom "House of Peace" and pictured above.
