or falling off them….

So on The World Race, many things happen which I would say are lifetime firsts. Ya know, your first step, your first word, your first day of school… Well on the race, there have been many firsts. Many that most people would hope to never have happen, and then some that many would dream of.
A few firsts so far have been
~ Bathing with baby wipes ~
~ Sleeping in a tent in monsoon rain ~
~ Worshiping with 45 people in a bar ~
~ Using a headlamp ~
~ Cliff jumping in Ukraine ~
~ Washing my hair in a well ~
~ Going into the Blue Mosque ~
~ Eating off of $3.50 a day ~
~ Wearing Tevas ~
~ Using McDonalds for internet ~
~ AND FALLING OFF THE TOP BUNK!! ~

So the other morning, there were various responses to my loud thump as I hit the floor.
Nicole sat up, rolled over, and made a ‘hmph’ noise as I clearly was interrupting her sleep… Turns out she had no idea.
Bethany slept right through it, which really is nothing new.
Heather flew up to a sitting position looking
around for the cause of the noise, only to see me on the floor. Then
freaked out while asking “Are you okay?!” My response, “Yeah, I am
fine…”
Ralph was slightly awake but after he didn’t see
anything from where he lays his head, he rolled back over figuring it
was nothing.
Tres had no response, but in the morning said he knew what happened, he just laid there figuring I was fine.
Birkleigh, whose head I felt next to, flung her
head up, stared at me, and said nothing. In the morning she shared with
us that she though we were at war, and had been bombed.

And as for me, I have no idea what happened. All I
know is I woke up on the floor. Not just the floor, but the small area
between mine and Birkleigh/Bethany’s bed. And not just in that small
area, but also still in my sleeping bag. At that time I couldn’t begin
to tell you what had happened other than I woke on the ground. I’m
really not sure if I woke up as I hit, or after the fact. What I do
know is I was still in my sleeping bag, and had never been more
grateful for a pile of crap. And I don’t mean a pile of crap
literally… More like an unorganized pile of chaos also known as
Bethany’s pack and life. Had she not had her mess, there is a good
chance my response to Heather would not have been that I was fine. It
would have been more like tears, cries, and a need for the hospital.

*Our hostel room, my bed being the one above the spare bed of luggage*

*The small are between my bed and Beth/Birk’s bed*                *This is the small are I fell in looking down from my bed*

So as the day went on, pain began to form. And so did the ideas of how I fell. While we once thought it was a fall as if I was sitting, we started to wonder if I hit things on the way down. I have a dent and bruise on my right shin. My left eyebrow bone hurts if that is even possible. The top of my head hurt. My tailbone was sore. Needless to say, my body hurt.
Then again I guess, that is what happens when you fall off of a top bunk…
