Coming on the Race I knew that there were a variety of things that I would have the opportunity to partner with the Lord in. Those consist of preaching, prayer walking, working at orphanages, making friends with the locals and doing construction work. Finding out that we had been assigned to working at a kid’s camp in Mrcajevci, Serbia, my team and I were pumped to be working with the little kiddos. We soon found out that we would be arriving in Serbia right when school started so there would be no kids at the camp. Saddened by the news my team and I were still excited to be starting the Race.

Arriving in Serbia on a cold, dreary night with new sights and smells created an environment of excitement and nervousness at the same time. My team and I were lucky enough to have our hosts pick us up and drive us 3 hours to our new home for the next month. Midnight rolls around and we show up to this pitch-black campground in the middle of the country. Exhausted from 24-hours of travel we hurried to unpack so we could get some rest. The next morning I woke up to a beautiful campground filled with apple trees and a view of the mountain range in the distance. Knowing that this was going to be my home for the next month got me even more excited!

The first week or so in Serbia we helped move our ministry hosts into their new apartment. It was a perfect time for us to get acquainted with our hosts, K and J, and see the culture we were about to become a part of for the next 3.5 weeks.

After finishing the move, we were finally able to sit down and talk. We were able to share our testimonies with each other and hear how our hosts got to Cacak, Serbia. It was great being able to here their heart for the Serbian people. Even though they are Aggies, I still love ‘em.

Learning that K had planned for a few construction projects out at the camp created an excitement inside of me. I have always been one to prefer working outside, mowing, painting, tearin’ up stuff and gardening – yes gardening. K had a lot in mind and it has been a wonderful experience to learn so much from him.

As you can see, this month has been filled with a lot of construction work here at the camp. Not once have I ever doubted that this is where the Lord wanted me. I approached the Race not having any expectations but being expectant that the Lord would show me more of Him than I could every imagine. I was able to see the Lord give us the strength to do the work laid before us and to do it with an attitude that reflects Him. K and J have expressed their thankful hearts to us many of times and it has definitely been and honor to work alongside them to accomplish the goals that they have to better serve the children of Serbia.
