I woke up this morning at 7:00 and it was freezing. Then I realize…I'm in Nepal…

Oh yeah.

So I roll out of my sleeping bag and stand up from the surprisingly comfortable sleeping pad on the living room floor of our contacts house, throw my hoodie on top of the layers of clothing already covering my body, and walk out the front door with a cup of Nepalese coffee in hand. Jesus. I walk up the concrete steps to the rooftop terrace right when the sun is peeking over the hills directly behind me. Glorious. Heat and beauty. All around me there are "foothills" (in la grange they are known as mountains) with tall standing trees where we cannot go camping because apparently there are tigers. Directly in front of me, past a few tall, skinny structures and rice fields, is a fog/smog covering the valley which the city of Kathmandu is nestled.

I sat up on the rooftop for a few moments drinking the best cup of coffee I've had in months and soaking in the mountain scene around me amplified by the crisp, thin air. Nature. Finally.

Then I saw them.

When the sun fights through the fog just right, its light reveals the most majestic skyline in all of creation…the Himalayas. The Himalayas! The peaks, covered in a white snow touched by the suns golden rays, are enough to draw any soul into awe and worship something. I know its my Dad in heaven. He created this whole beautiful scene through just his Word! His mind and glory are uncomparable! I think about all of this glory surrounding me and about how God made me in this moment to be at complete rest in it. I think about all the adventures in my entire life that led me to this point and all I can see is infinite grace. My God is good. My God is pure beauty. My God is fully relational. In Him is life.

To my 10 o'clock is a beautiful, steep hill that's closer than the rest. On it rests a temple. Every 2 years children are sacrificed there to a God that doesn't exist. Murdered. And I think…

What have we done?

He is merciful to ALL. Amen.
