South of the Himalayas there is a tree growing. And it's pure evil.
The seed was planted by satan himself. The root found fertile soil in Nepal. Now, the shade from the branches covers all of India. That tree is human trafficking.
In India we suffocated under the shade. Suffocated. The red light districts we walked through were the darkest places I've ever been to in my life. The fruit we saw under that tree were only shame, guilt, immorality, violence, anger, pain, grief, and loss. No joy. Smiles…pleasure…but absolutely no joy. Men using women. Women completely numbed to their incredible worth in Christ. This is what happens when sexual immorality is left unchecked. Gods commands are so wise and good for us.
Now, I've seen the root. Nepal.
My questions about how anyone could be put in such a desperate situation are answered. Daughters, for the most part, are worthless here. And they are told so ever since their birth. They are told so in how they get married. Their fathers PAY a dowry to their prospective husbands because they WANT to get rid of their daughters. Girls get married sometimes around age 7 or 8…maybe even younger. The attitude for the father is if I can get rid of her, then my family will be better off, the attitude for the bridegroom is if I take her off your hands, then you better pay up. Even when the women is married she is told to make her husband a god and is abused and sometimes even murdered. At the birth of a newborn girl, the parents cry. The heart of a woman, which God says is worthy to be praised, (proverbs 31) is shattered as soon as this broken world could touch it. So much for being "daddy's little girl" or Cinderella. Those ambitions are crushed and girls are treated not just with no respect…but no WORTH. Awful.
So what drives a woman to sex slavery? Well, most get sold by their own families for a quick buck. What's most shocking is some women decide to go. Their situation is so hopeless that when female recruiters, who have been in the brothels in India for a time, come back to Nepal dressed in fancy jewelry and clothes, and armed with enhanced stories of a "better life", they are able to convince teenagers to come back with them! Any hope is better than none. Any worth is better than none. People…this is a lose-lose situation! What can be done?
This is my teams question as we step into ministry this month. What are the strategies we can dream up, and how can we facilitate them through a running website which our contact brought into existence and is having us edit and improve. Our team is full of passionate dreamers and we have been given an opportunity to do so through this website…through education. Not just educating about the horrors of this atrocity, but also the most glorious and beautiful education of all…the gospel. This is our goal. This is the change. This is how we uproot the tree. Jesus. He's not just a man, He is the hope of the whole world.
Pray for us as we change, update, upload teaching materials, and edit this website into a tool of education for youth pastors in the thick of the action to educate their own people about the ultimate worth and glory they truly have in Christ. Pray also for strategies across the world to help cut this tree down.
