I know, I know. I didn’t blog yesterday. I know you were deeply disappointed and didn’t know what to do with your life without my glorious insight…… So to make up for it you get not one but TWO Harry Potter fun facts.
Numero Uno: Each Ollivander’s original wand has a magical core from one of three magical creatures; unicorn hair, dragon heart string, or phoenix tail-feather. No two wands are exactly alike, just as no two unicorns, dragons, or phoenixes are exactly alike.
Numero Dos: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs died in reverse order of how they are listed on the Marauder’s Map.
So now that I have you hooked with some really important HP facts, lets get to the quote.
“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.” –Albus Dumbledore.
I love relating this quote to one of my favorite Jesus stories. It’s one I have preached on many times in the last few months, but for obvious reasons (like witchcraft being real in Africa) you can’t really bring up Harry in a sermon.
When you look at the story of Jesus calming the storm in Mark 4:35-41 it’s a perfect example of remembering to turn on the light. When the disciples got in the boat there wasn’t a storm. They had the light with them, but they didn’t really need it.
These are the times in our lives when things are going good. These are the times in my life when my relationship with God has taken a back seat to everything else. Clear skies and sunny weather.
However when the storm hits you see how the disciples react. They panic. They are freaking out thinking they are going to die. They had forgotten an important thing though.
They had the light with them.
When they go to wake Jesus up, they ask if he doesn’t care that they are perishing. Maybe a bit melodramatic in hindsight, but I do the same thing. In my moments of need I cry out to God “WHERE ARE YOU?! Don’t you know I need you?!”
Things are going to get hard, there are going to be storms. But we have to remember to turn on the light. We have to remember that Jesus isn’t off on the shore watching us. He is right there in the boat with us. He is in the storm in the chaos right beside us. We just have to remember to go to him.
In our darkest times we have to turn on the light, because he has the power to speak peace.
In the story Jesus speaks peace over the waters, and while in our lives he may not speak peace over our storms, he can speak peace into our hearts. When we go to the Lord he may not take away our circumstance, but he can give us peace and understanding in it.
If you are walking through a dark time I want to encourage you to find Jesus, because I promise you he is there with you. Find the light in the dark and then cling to him.
If you are in a season of light, I want to encourage you to find Jesus, because I promise you dark days are ahead. Build up your relationship with the Lord now so that when those storms hit, your natural reaction isn’t panic but turning to the light.
Love you all!
Audrey
