As I told you all before here in Eldoret we are working with Pastor William and his church. This week we have done a lot of door-to-door ministry as well as holding a Crusade in the evening.
Africa is so much different than the states in the fact that people believe so much easier. In the States we like to know exactly what we are getting in to when it comes to religion. People study different philosophies and scrutinize what each religion or denomination believes before deciding to join. In Africa after someone has accepted Christ is when they start to gather data. They want to believe in something so bad that they put their full heart into it without any doubt. They believe in God even in the worst circumstances because they have seen him perform miracles. In the States, many times we brush God’s miracles off as a coincidence or fate. Here, they take hold of everything God has to give them.
On one of the house calls I was at I was speaking to a man named Dombay. Dombay told us that he knew who God was but he didn’t want to fully accept him yet because “it wasn’t time”. He knows in his heart that once he accepts Jesus his life needs to radically change and he is not ready for that yet. The woman who I was ministering with, Mildred kept telling him that today was the day for salvation and you never know what tomorrow is going to bring. I took the more lax attitude of “It’s your butt, not mine”. That is not the attitude I need to have. I need to adopt the attitude of the African pastors who preach with such an urgency!
I am learning so much about the culture while being here. If something is suppose to start at nine in the morning we usually don’t get started until about eleven in the morning. We are starting to adapt to “African time”. Pastor William is also not afraid to call people out to speak. Last night at the Crusade Pastor William gave me about two minutes to prepare to give my testimony or a word at the Crusade. That is not something I am at all comfortable with but I am going to have to get used to. God is definitely pushing me out of my comfort zone and I’m kind of regretting asking him to do that! I can’t say that God doesn’t answer prayers!
