My team has been here a week at Beacon of Hope Africa and Angie has welcomed and made us feel like we are at home. One of the first nights we were here, she served us brownie. Brownies!!! You can go along time overseas before you come across brownies. They were delectable.
[Incase you have not noticed, the World Race has the tendency to make people excited about food. Going 11 months without home-cooked American food makes you ecstatic when you get it. I may or may not have my first meal back in the States all planned out.]
Africa celebrates Children’s’ day each June, and so on Saturday we held a carnival for the neighborhood kids in honor of Children’s’ day. There was games, face painting, songs, water-balloons, goodie bags, and a story to wrap the day up. Around 100 children of all ages attended. I enjoyed it as much as the kids.
There is a home for children of trafficking victims nearby, and on Sunday we traveled there to hold the carnival for the kids there. Several of the children were celebrating birthdays, so it was a backyard Bible school/birthday party all in one. I do not have pictures from either day… my camera was left behind once again. The good news is that Carly was our event photographer so maybe I’ll borrow pictures from her to post in the near future. 🙂
Today starts our first day teaching classes to the Hope House boys. The boys are awesome. There are six boys here and they are all first year students. We’ll be teaching classes such as English, Math, Bible, Science, Basic Health & First Aid and God’s World. It is going to be fun month!
