This month we served alongside a powerful youth group in Malawi. These teens and young adults are making difference in their community. Our assigned ministry included preaching, encouraging, serving the elderly, and sometimes, worship. However, when we found out that a hospital was nearby, we asked permission to include hospital visits in our ministry. The pastor graciously agreed and the youth joined us.

(The rockstar youth building a bathroom- we were fetching water with the women and hoeing the ground.)

My immune system was not at its finest for most of the month. During our first visit to the hospital I decided to intercede outside because I didn’t want the patients or myself to undergo more sickness than we were already enduring. The visit was pleasant. But, we all wanted more.

We wanted the Lord to use us in a miraculous way.

Our second visit came about a week later. We interceded and spiritually prepared ourselves for the Lord to do something amazing before we left the house. Again, I decided to continue interceding outside of the women’s’ ward. The Holy Spirit began to sing through me. All I could do was sing praises to the King. I had been pacing for most of the visit. After I sat on a nearby bench, my heartbeat began to quicken. I knew right then that the Lord was doing something. He was telling me so. I peeked through the window to see my team praying at a woman’s bedside. My heart was racing at this point. It didn’t cease until well after my team returned.

My first question: “What happened with the last woman you prayed for?” The answer did not surprise me.

She was healed!

But, I write this post in hopes that you will allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you and through you. Intercession is powerful. We don’t all have the opportunity to physically see God’s miracles. But, we all have an opportunity to be a part of them.

Spend time interceding for the ministries of racers. Spend time interceding for your family, friends, and community. It is more than just saying a prayer. It’s intentionality, focus, desperation, passion, and expectancy. When you fight for someone or something through intercession, the Lord hears you and He responds.
