Days are held hostage by the sun, chirping birds and golden trees as far as the eyes can see. Mice and spiders and mosquitos are captors of the night. As I shiver from either cold or fear, I toss and turn wishing I could just fall sleep and tap into another dimension. One where I don’t have to think about the mice that might jump in my bed, the spiders that might crawl all over my skin and into my mouth, or the mosquitos who drain me of my blood, leaving behind a vicious itch and possible a disease. Yet as time vanishes into the darkness I’m woken by the light and warmth of the seizing sun. The beauty outside entices me to go out and soak up it’s simple essence.

Our first group of boys seemed to adapt well to life here. Of course nothing goes off without a hitch, but little miracles happen everyday; noticed and unnoticed. Our two days together left the boys eager for the next week.
The boys adored the tie dye shirts we made!
Boys doing the dishes
It was decided that we would not have a second group of boys come on Wed/Thurs in order to continue building relationships with the once we already knew and loved. Instead we arranged to have one to three boys come per day to work or hang out and spend quality time with them. The projects that we had originally planned for the boys our teams are doing as well as a few of the kids that tony is hiring to work here. The main project that I’m working on is the front gate. First we sanded it, painted non erosion paint over it and then we will paint it brown and paint a welcome sign beside it. It is a big job but is going fast with all the help. One of the days three girls from the house in front of the gate came over and helped and then played with Tracy. They are absolutely precious! I have also had the privelege to help grocery shop (which I love) and cook (which I also love) 🙂 I’m excited to shop and cook with mom when I get home!
Not all of our time here is spent working. Lots is spent worshiping and personal time with God, playing monopoly or sorry with the boys, watching movies and just being goofy. On Thursday it was Andrea’s birthday so we planned a surprise party which consisted of fettucini and spaghetti, homemade BETTY CROCKER funfetti cake, banana splits and a pinata. An icing fight broke out during our cake eating where we all just dug in and grabbed a handful. Delightful.
One afternoon I went out into our backyard and took pictures. It was bliss 🙂
