On Saturday we had the incredible opportunity to raft the Nile. INSANE.
The first good question to ask when deciphering how much a person enjoyed themselves is:
Would you do it again?
I had the sick feeling in my stomach as we reached the bottom of the pathway that stopped at the edge of the Nile. I started to feel panicky yet excited for what I was about to face. A wild ride lay ahead. I got in the boat anyways. The first part was spent learning to take instructions from the guide and practicing what happens when we capsize. Thankfully it only happened once. It was traumatizing. Looking back, I think I blacked out when I was under the boat because all I remember is thinking “oh my goodness we’re about to tip over”, and then I remember my head bobbing out of the water and gasping for air while I tried to grasp the side of the boat. I heard Nathan beside me repeatedly asking if I was okay but I couldn’t say anything, all I could do was try and keep my head out of the water and try not to swallow Nile water. I was a little shaky all the way til lunch time but the delicious food calmed me down a bit. We had a huge feast prepared for us with sandwich toppings such as lunch meat and cheese, a delicasy for us here in Africa and potato salad. DELISH. I was a little nervous to get back in the boat but was very thankful that I did. Tutu our guide saved us from tipping over again and we had plenty of time to swim and lay out in the boat. The scenery along the way was gorgeous! I also saw a couple monkeys! When we arrived at the end they had prepared cabobs and chapatti for us to snack on.. SO GOOD! I am obsessed with chapatti hahaha. We were all a little crispy skinned and exhausted but we had a wonderful day over all 🙂
Yes. I would do it again.
