You’re a good soldier, choosing your battles pick yourself up and
dust yourself off and get back in your saddle!

You’re on the front line, everyone’s watching. You know its serious, we’re
getting closer, this isn’t over.

The pressure’s on you feel it but you got it all believe it.

When you fall get up oh oh, if you fall get up eh eh cause this is Africa!

It’s time for Africa!

We arrived in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday at 2am without too much madness. I
still think it’s pretty unreal that we are in AFRICA! We will be here longer
than we’ve even been on the race… that’s kind of a crazy thought.

I had a shower today and although cold it was a real shower which I did not
expect to get once we arrived, (I have a feeling it won’t happen again for a
while). Our whole squad is staying at a hostel which has African Safari murals
everywhere. I’m staying in a room called Zebra with paw prints all over the
outside of it. Carin, (my canadian buddy), and I are sharing a bed with a mostquito
net hanging above us that we woke up tangled in.

Yesterday some of us walked to the
grocery store which is about 30minutes away. I was pleasantly surprised to find
ritz cheese crackers! We stopped at this little market where we were being
hastled to buy stuff, so stressful!

Today we met the guy who is setting us up with all of our contacts. Before
he started  talking a bird pooped  on Sarah and me. It was nasty. Green poop
with seeds.. I really need to wash it off… ha! Anyways our main contact is really
nice and quite funny.  We got breifed on
cultural stuff which is a big help. The next three months are gonna be insane!
One of the things that he said which kinda scared me is that when you preach
for about half an hour at a church sometimes people stand up and talk for like
15 minutes trying to figure out what you just said. EEK!

Beside our hostel there is a little outside diner, we have eaten there a
couple times and it’s delish! For breakfast I’ve been having mango, bananna
pancakes and fruit salad…mmmmm!

The money here is called shillings and a $1.20 is about 100 shillings. It’s
really strange paying for stuff that way.

We definitely haven’t been finding out information until the very last
minute which is slightly frusterating but I’m getting used to it now. Before we
know it none of us will even bother asking questions cause the answer will be
“I have no idea” anyways haha.(You think we would have learned by
now). So anyways we found out today that the place we’ll be going to, Buscia,
which is on the border of Kenya and Uganda is a 9 hour bus ride that we’ll be
taking tomorrow… yup you guessed it, we have no idea what time.

OH! Logan bought a Jimbay (African drum) yesterday and we jammed today, it
was so fun 🙂

We are announcing our new team name tonight! So excited! It will be posted
in my next blog.

I don’t have any pictures to post yet but will hopefully be able to put
some up soon!
