The four hour flight from Bucarest, Romania to Dublin, Ireland was filled with pure excitement. Daniel, Nathan and I picked our theme songs for take off, Daniel’s and mine being, Take it Easy by the Eagles. We rocked out doing as much of a happy dance as we could all crammed into the small confines of our seats. It did not matter that it was 4 in the morning Romanian time when we finally arrived or that it was misting as we exited the plane. Besides, what a more of an appropriate welcome to Ireland than rain.
Our teammates met us at the airport with arms full of baguettes galore. We were told they were free and I didn’t ask questions. Would you? Free food is free food.. especially when you’re hungry, you don’t discriminate. My tummy was so grateful. After they were all devoured I found out that they were scavenged from a garbage bag that was gonna get thrown out. Eek!
We stayed overnight at the airport and I made the unfortunate desicion to stay in my shorts and sandals. Shivering I lay sleeping on the icy tiles all night with only my pillow and a little airplane blanket, waking up every once in a while to rub a wee bit (like the Irish lingo I’ve picked up?) of warmth into my arms and feet. Thankfully I was so exhausted that I managed to get some sleep.
Dublin airport is the coolest airport I’ve been in so far. Partly because it has a Starbucks a McDonalds hehe. For breakfast I ate a delightful bagel from McDonalds and warmed my belly with vanilla Earl Grey tea from starbucks. MMMM. Once I figured out that we’d be at the airport until 11 am I opted to dig  through my backpack for appropriate clothing. All toasty in my jeans and runners it was all worth it and I regreted not doing so the night before..live and learn.
Making our way to the hostel where we’d be staying for the next little while, we all had a permanent smile on our faces that continued throughout the next few days.
Walking into to our ministry sight later that day I felt complete peace. It felt so right. It felt like home. We met our contact, Leisel and quickly learned that she used to live where I was born! Crazy! There are so many Canadians here it’s awesome! 🙂 Leisel is a really awesome lady and I have loved doing ministry with her so far.
Our hostel is really neat, we have gotten to meet so many interesting people from all over the world and have gotten to share some our stories with them and create friendships. Everyone in Ireland is super friendly, it’s so refreshing.
Being in Ireland has felt like a dream, another dream come to life 🙂  Sometimes it still feels so unreal that we are actually here. Thank you God!
