On our 29 hour train ride to Romania we saw fields and fields of bright yellow sunflowers coloring the landscape. As I was admiring their beauty a thought came to me. The children of God are like sunflowers in full bloom. When we first let Christ into our lives, our buds slowly start to open. With the perfect amount rain and sun our buds continue to flourish as we do when we let God feed our spiritual needs. We grow taller, stronger, brighter and more rooted in the ground. Cloudy skies may move in overhead and we might hide our heads for a minute and our stems may bend and sway in the winds, but we are ever planted in the ground. Just as trials and tribulations in life can make us sway and want to hide our heads, we are still firmly planted in the soil of God’s love and truth. He gives us exactly what we need to grow. He is there watching us through dry spells in our spiritual lives, knowing how much we can handle, He gives us the water of life exactly when we need it; He makes His love rain down on us. Finally as the skies clear and the Son shines in the sky above, all of God’s Sonflower children point their faces towards the sky to soak up as much Sonlight as they possibly can. Sharing God’s love with others, make the fields spread longer and wider, until the ground is covered in new shoots popping their heads from the earth. What a glorious sight it is for our Father in heaven to look down on his creation and see all His Sonflower children worshiping Him, soaking up the Sonlight. Yellow flowers dotting the horizon, the Son reflecting in their faces for all to see.
