ATL Romania
We have 5 days left in Romania and
we are not checking out early. Today we had an ATL day. I’m sure most
of you have heard me talk about our ATL months. It stands for “Ask
The Lord”. Our plans for the day were: pray, listen to God, go
where God tells us to go, do what God wants us to do. A few of my
group members felt we should go downtown, so on the bus we jumped and
off we went. Usually on days like these, I have a lot of respect for
the people that just jump right in and go and pray and talk to random
people because that’s just not my style. I know that evangelism is
important. I know that God does big things through it. I know that
God can speak through you and He knows who you need to talk to each
day. BUT, I make excuses and coast through days like today by just
encouraging the evangelists and praying for them while they are
talking to people. Not Today God Said. I feel like ATL days are my
day in the classroom. We have been out rocking it for 2 months now
and its easy to get caught up in a schedule and just go through the
motions and showing Gods love without telling them its Gods love you
are showing them. Days like ATL days are the days back in the
classroom where we learn how to LISTEN to God. We learn to listen,
and then we do some hands on experimenting if you will. I am flexible
and adaptable in most circumstances and because of that I have the
ability to coast a lot of times. I’ve been praying a lot these last 2
months that I wouldn’t just coast. That I would be bold, step out in
faith in big ways and have no fear to do what God has prepared for me
to. I don’t talk to random people. I suck at small talk. Its awkward
and uncomfortable. Today I flew solo for part of the ATL and was able
to have a really great conversation with a Romanian woman on a park
bench. She has such big dreams and I pray that she would have the
courage to go after them. She is a lawyer…but she has much much
more in store for her if she just goes for it. After talking with her
for about a half hour, I was able to pray with her and encourage her.
Turns out, God knew what He was doing (shocker), she said she really
was not doing well today and was so thankful that somebody talked to
her, especially an American.
living today for a reason. You may not find out what that reason is
unless you step out of your comfort zone, into faith, and listen to
God. If God lays it on your heart to go talk to someone….Go talk to
them. Even if you think you won’t speak the same language. 🙂
