Two of my amazing cousins, Tony and Lisa, have been showing me what it looks like to follow through with your calling. They have lived in California for the past few years and had things falling into place for them and were all settled down there with their 4 children. However, things just didn’t seem right. God had placed The Valley on their hearts and they knew that they needed to follow up on it. Tony and Lisa picked up their family and moved back to The Valley and are in the process of planting a church here. Spending time with them and walking through life with them these past few months has been such a huge blessing.
Tony and Lisa have such a unique way of connecting with people that is so different than ordinary people view church. They are about connecting with people on a deep level, helping meet their needs in any way they can help, serving through actions, and most of all- teaching The Word and telling people that above all- God loves you and He will protect and provide for you. Trust in Him.
This past Sunday we looked at Mark 6: 30-44. The one where Jesus feeds thousands of people with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.
I’ve heard this story many times before, but this time it hit me a little deeper. How on earth can thousands of people be fed with so little? How on earth could two exhausted disciples with only 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish hear Jesus’ orders to use what they have and not laugh? How can I make a difference in people’s lives when I’m as messed up as I am? How can donating $20 to an organization really make a difference? How can I help people when I have no experience? How can I provide for the poor when I myself have thousands of dollars of student loans to pay off? How could I do so much with so little?
How could I do so much with so little?
The answer is easy. Jesus says use what you have. God has given you what you have or do not have for a reason and He is asking you to use it! If you trust in the Lord and take your 5 and 2 and invest it in something way bigger…God will take that 5 and 2 and feed thousands with it.
I may not be the most equipped person to travel the world doing what I’ll be doing. I do know that I can take what little I have and it will go much further than I could ever expect.
