Day In The Life… Yo!
Figured I would give you guys an insite to a typical day here at K.I.M, of course more things happen in different order, but you can get the jist of it. I will try to do one for each ministry sight we are at. Note: I do not always have the 5am shift 🙂
4:45 Wake up and walk to the orphanage
5:00 Wake up 13 sleepy children, this may require being physcially pulled out of bed and numerous hed rubs, soft demands and pulling limbs.
5:15 make sure all children get in the shower, or on days when there is no running water get them all outside behind the house and they may bathe in rain water from the drums.
5:30 Devotion time with Pastor Lary, singing loud songs with hand gestures and verse memorization, some children will fall back asleep on your lap.
6:00 Breakfast for the children which consists of eggplant, rice, sardines and ketchup, washed down with sour ginger hot juice
6:30 Big kids do chores and get their uniforms ready for school.
7:00 The little kids are running around the feild, you can choose to chase them or hang with the toddlers in the sand box, followed by veggie tales sing alongs.
9:00 Shift is off, walk back to the room, or dragging feet depending if they brought coffee with breakfast.
9:00-12:00 Mine useally looks like cleaning my area of the room, cleaning a few more things, take a shower, read my bible / journal. Sometimes go back to visit the toddlers and babies, talk to people while eating some sort of food with peanut butter and lay down for a little bit.
12:00 Lunch time made of rice, veggies and meat. Then finished with some sort of cookie with more peanut butter.
1:00 Physcial labor of some sort. This can look like riding in the back of an open trailor for 20 minutes in the pouring rain to go cut grass saud next to a giant ox looking animal. Coming back tot he camp, digging small holes, and filling it with the new grass. Singing to songs coming from the pavillion or making funny jokes at each other are a common sight.
4:00 The rain comes, everyones heads back in for either a rinse off, or a quick game of “never have I ever.”
5:00 Dinner time made up of rice, veggies and meat. Then finished with some sort of cookie with peanut butter.
6:00 Go back up to the childrens home, hang with the house moms, help shower the toddleres or do some devotion time with the big kids.
7:00 Team metting time? This can last for a few minutes or an hour or two. Sometimes this is non occuring and things such as eating balutte, singing kareoke, games of rummy, or star gazing.
8:00 Get back to the room, some are already sleeping, others cracking up at the days occurances, or organizing areas (that may be just me)
9:00 Pray that you can sleep through the night, thank God for the most amazing oppertunities and hit the sack to do it all over again the next day.
xoxo
