We sure did! Okay, let me take you back. Before Dave (our American contact) left us he asked what we wanted to see this month.
“Someone raised from the dead!”
“A salvation decision!”
“A healing!”
“Emotion in these women who appear so hard!”
Pretty big prayers, but we all know God is big and totally capable. Alvah set out with German this morning hungry. Hungry to see miracles. The first lady we visited let us hug her through her stiff arm to our shoulders. We gave her food, vitamins, and a brush for her hair. Prayed with her and sang a song. “Adios!” “Mucho gusto.”
Next, Francisca, the sweetest 93 year old I’ve ever met. She is taking care of her son who has cerebral palsy. We were hungry for a healing, let us at her son! Jesus! Heal him we prayed, the Holy Spirit was there, no physical healing that we could see with our eyes. Jesus was with us though! On to the next, she had a daughter at home with her and a 9 month old granddaughter. We knew the Holy Spirit was there, Christian prayed for her and God showed his heart for the widow. It was beautiful.

On to the next. Holy Spirit, keep moving! We sit down and talk to the widow. There is man that has joined our circle. We ask how he is related and find out he’s not. He starts telling us about how he has seizures sometimes. He hurts himself during these times and it happens every three or four months. We pray for the widow and it’s Juan Carlos’ turn. Here we go, praying for a healing! All of us could feel it was a spiritual battle we were fighting with Juan Carlos. We demanded the enemy to leave. He has no place there. We left fully confident the battle was won. All he had to do is have faith that he’s free.
“What time is it?” German asks.
“Eleven Fifteen.” I answered.
“Okay, we have time for one more?”
“Of course we do!”
We hop in the van and head up the hill to another house. Theresa is the widow we met. She lives there with Tina, her daughter. We find out quickly that Tina is sick and has been for several months. She can’t really move from bed she’s so sick. Amanda (our squad leader visiting our team for the week) immediately feels the back pain. You see, she has a gift the lord has given her. When she is in the presence of someone in pain (specifically the back) she feels it.
We pray for Theresa, then ask “can we pray for Tina?”
“Yes of course!” a response often given to us by German.
We all surround Tina, Amanda at her back. We finish praying but there’s still pain. Amanda offers a massage. I walk around the bedroom and let the Holy Spirit do his thing through her. I look back and see Meghan praying for her arm. There’s more? I watched from afar for a bit, but I couldn’t stay away for long. The spirit was moving and I needed to be a part of it. As I walked over Amanda was finishing up Tina’s back, but Megs still felt pain. “Your head hurts? In the temples? Yea! I can feel it.” She prayed, the pain was less but still there. She prayed again, “Pain! This time I’m speaking directly to you! There is no place here for you! In Jesus name, leave!” The pain was gone from her temples but we weren’t free yet. “Has your pain moved?” Meghan asked, “I can feel pain in the back of my neck.” Tina shook her head and pointed to her neck. That’s it! We’ve had enough of this pain. We were all upset at this point. What do you think you’re doing here pain? We all prayed boldly for it to leave once and for all in Jesus name. “Any more pain?” Tina shook her head no but she still wasn’t sure. The pain was gone, all that was left was for her to believe it.

Praying for healing with Tina
As we walked away from the house, after a picture with Theresa, we were confident we had just experienced a healing. There was no more pain, none of us felt a heaviness like we did when we first walked in, we felt a peace. This is just one of the many stories from Xenacoj, I love this place, I love these widows that are second class citizens among the women. They’re sweet and enjoy hugs, for the most part. They even let us sing for them. I’ve always known I have a special place in my heart for people over the age of 70, I just didn’t know how big that place was until I met the widows of Xenacoj and Santa Maria. They are filling my heart this month, Jesus has been loving me well, allowing GO! HOW (Helping Orphans & Widows) to be our ministry this month.
