We’re living right in the middle of a war zone.

There are countless battles happening here everyday.

But its not the kind of war that you are thinking of.

None the less, the fighting that’s going on in this place is terrifying.

No one is dying from guns, they’re dying inside from a lack of being filled with the holy spirit.

People aren’t sleeping and are constantly restless, but its not because of bombs going off in the middle of the night, its because that is when the dark spirits choose to do their dirty work.

People are in prison, but they are not in a literal building with four walls and orange jumpsuits, they are imprisoned in pagan traditions and witchcraft.

Our house is the house that the devil has his eye on. Our relationships with Jesus and with each other are the relationships that the devil has his eye on. It is month ten, and we are fighting a war with the devil himself in this community.

People in this community don’t want us here. They don’t want change, and they don’t want Jesus. There are people in this community that are hateful and yell vulgar comments at us when we walk down the street. There are people who would love to try to put curses on us if they had the chance. This place is dark. This place is a war zone.

But even in the war zone beauty can be found it you look hard enough. Flowers come up in cracks in the pavements in areas that you think could never again sustain life. Innocent children smile and laugh when a group of American’s pass them by and make a silly face at them. The beauty can still be seen here if you know where to look, but it’s fading fast and sometimes, it seems almost impossible that we will be able to win this war.

But wars aren’t won by winning the entire war at once, wars are won by winning battles, one at a time. Like the man who we met in the village who didn’t want anything to do with us when we arrived, but after a long talk accepted a new testament and now wants us to visit next week. Or the children who come to kids club and listen with every ounce of their being to the stories that we tell them about Jesus walking on water and how to not get trapped in the vicious cycle of sin. Or the home visits that we do where couples are desperate to know why they feel so hopeless and want us to tell them what they can do to feel alive again. These are everyday occurrences in America, but in this type of a war zone, these are major battles won. Battles won lead to wars won, and although this month is one of the most difficult that some of us have faced this far, we are fighting hard, and with Jesus by our side, we will win this war.

Revelation 17:14

“These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.”
