We are a few days in to our ministry here in the Philippines, and life is pretty much a dream. Our days are filled with amazing Filipino food, loving on street kids, teaching, and exploring the neighborhood. Our complex has a pool, as well as a mini spa, and if it were not for the thousands of people living in poverty around us on a daily basis, it would sometimes be hard to believe that we are actually on the world race. To say the least, we are extremely blessed this month when it comes to our living situation, as well as our amazing contact that we are working with.
Saturday, was just kind of an off day for me. Nothing terrible happened, it was just one of those days where you lose a shirt and it makes you frustrated beyond belief because you only have seven to begin with. The kind of day where its annoying to have a 12 hour time difference between you and your best friends because you just want to see their faces. I wasn't homesick, or in a horrible mood, it was just one of those days.
Late that night, I got a craving. It was a craving that I often get at home: That of my Nanny's amazing homemade chocolate chip cookies. I in no way had any real expectations of Nanny's cookies (or any chocolate chip cookies at all really) showing up in the Philippines, but still I shot a little half hearted request up to God that was something along the lines of “Hey God some chocolate chip cookies would be so great right now.' And then I went to bed. That was it, nothing spectacular happened, chocolate chip cookies didn't instantly fall from the sky, and quite honestly when I woke up this morning I hadn't even remembered that little prayer, but apparently God did.
Sunday we woke up and went to church next door, and then wandered back over to our complex and hung out until lunch. When it was my turn up at the food line, I slapped another pile of rice on my plate as I looked further down the line inspecting what our options were for food today. It was then that I saw it: A big cookie sheet sized chocolate chip cookie laying right on the table as our desert. I literally could not believe my eyes, and instantly thought about that quick chat I had had with God the night before. Skylar happened to be aside of me when I saw them, and the only thing I could think to say was “Yo, I totally prayed for chocolate chip cookies last night.”
Now don't get me wrong, they were no Nanny's chocolate chip cookies, but none the less, they were chocolate chip cookies, and man were they good! It doesn't matter how many times God answers prayers, I continue to be amazed at the little ones. I had no expectation of actually getting chocolate chip cookies anytime in the near future, like I said I hadn't even remembered that I had asked for them until I saw them lying there. God answers prayers! We have been told a lot lately to pray bold prayers, and that God will answer them. I believe this whole heartedly, but it makes me so happy when he answers the little ones, like giving a girl chocolate chip cookies, just because he likes so see us smile 🙂
