It’s colors were red and blue and they sat on the face of a man maybe in his 60s. Quiet but comfortable in his skin. He was a soil biologist from Germany looking for some time away from work. He had markings on his skin that I couldn’t figure out if there were remnants of tattoos from long ago or just some skin issue. But as I stared at the red and blue of his face, he explained to me the blue of his life. We talked about God and church as he continued on about a divorce, lack of finding life and getting busy with work. I told him about how much God loved him, and really that He just wants him to talk with Him again. He was invited to church, but never came that few days later. He hugged me when we parted ways and the look in his eyes was soft and touched. He’s gone out of my life, I only knew him for an hour, but he will stay in my prayers for infinitely longer — that he can find life and hope in a church back home and that he is talking to God again.

His name was Thomas.
