I think I am already in love with Peru. Even as I strained my body to find a comfortable “sleeping” position on our 25-hour bus ride, I was surprised at the view outside of the bus window. It was like the pictures you see in empty frames people try to sell at Wal-Mart or something. You know the ones that look so good, it’s hard to believe someone actually took them? Yea that was my view. It was nighttime when I woke up for the third time, probably around 2am. It was the first time I woke up completely on my own and not due to border checks or random police inspections, which happened continuously throughout our ride. One time, I woke up to a cop shining a flashlight on the seat in front of me. (Not a good way to wake up) Anyway, the scene outside was definitely one I wished I could’ve captured on my camera, but it was over my head and I was still drowsy so I just stared out the window until I fell asleep again.

All I could see was desert. Sand, sand and more sand. There were large, rolling sand dunes outlined but the night sky. The moon was hovering above two of the dunes, lighting up the sand below. I couldn’t see water anywhere and thought to myself, wow this is what a real desert looks like. I wish I could have gotten out and walked around in the sand, although, I probably would have been a little pissed if I had to get out of the bus at the time. The sky was lit with all the stars and you could see for miles because the land was flat for the most part. There were a few sand dunes every now and then and a car on the road once and while. For the most part, it was just us on the bus, driving through a desert. It was beautiful at night. When I woke up again it was morning and realized it was more beautiful at night with the moon lighting up the landscape.

I am happy to report that we are not in the middle of a deserted town, but we are definitely in the middle of a desert. Yesterday was our first day in Trujillo, Peru. It’s a small city about 8 hours from Lima, the capital of Peru. Our house is close to the coast, located in the province, Porvenir. When I get my own house one day, mark my words…it will probably be modeled after the one we live in now. (well, if I am living somewhere where it does not rain a lot, if at all)

When you first walk into the house, the first thing you see is pink, a bright pastel pink. Obviously, this suits me. Although, I’m not sure I will model my house after this color. It might be hard on the eyes after awhile. Anyway, there is a living room, kitchen, bathroom and washroom and three bedrooms on the first floor. The best part, the part I will definitely note when looking for my own house is that the downstairs is inside and the upstairs is almost completely outside. This is kind of hard to explain without pictures. There is a door on the one side of the kitchen leading to the outside. The last room is outside but has its own roof, while it is still connected to the building. So, basically, there is a staircase that is completely open that leads to the roof. There are no doors leading to or from the staircase so, you can literally jump from the top of the staircase to the other side of the house. I already tried it J
