MONTH 11: MALAYSiA!
This month we lived in Malaysia. We finished our last days of ministry on the World Race (although I’m never actually “finished” with ministry of course) and now we are debriefing for a few days before we head home on the 27th!! Here’s a recap of the month that my friend and teammate Kaitlyn wrote about:
We lived in Kuala Krai in an apartment, this was our housing complex
This country is mostly Muslim. So much so that at birth you must state what religion you are, and BY LAW if you declare “Muslim” as your religion, you cannot EVER change by law. If they choose to leave this religious identity, they will be persecuted. The Chinese & Indian immigrants have freedom of religion here.
Even sharing with the Muslims is against the law. Our main ministry is working with the Chinese and Indian populations here.
This week started Rahmandan, a Muslim festival that lasts the entire month of fasting from sunrise to sunset. Our team decided to fast the week leading up to Ramadan, praying that God may show up to these people during Rahmadan in visions and dreams. He does sometimes and I’ve heard a lot of testimonies of how its happened. We’re praying over the villages and the country of Malaysia in general. May the valley of dry bones be woke up!
We celebrated the 4th of July in Malaysia. It was probably the most epic Fourth Festivity day we could have had abroad having as much spirit and red white & blue as possible. My teammate’s sister & her husband came in to stay with us for a few days on their vacation.
We had chicken & beans & corn & coleslaw & mashed potatoes & gravy & brownies & ice cream & KoolAid. We all dressed up in whatever forms of red, white & blue we had and started our festivities early. We talked about other Holidays on the Race. We talked about family traditions over the 4th. We attempted to shoot off a firework. We played music. We watched a firework show on a laptop. We celebrated Freedom. Religious Freedom. Freedom that a lot of the countries we’ve been to actually don’t have. Freedom that we’ve experienced is freedom they can’t fathom or comprehend.
We talked about things we’ve been freed from this year while on the World Race.
Our Ministry this month:
We’ve been traveling A LOT! We’re working with Pastor Yesu.
We’re physically building a church
Children’s Ministry at the Chinese church in our neighborhood
In an Indian village for evangelism with Hindus
Children’s ministry with Indigenous people in Gua Musang.
We took a 6 hour train ride to Mentakab and worked with a church.
This is a view from the train
This is the youth ministry there.
The Wong’s were our family for the weekend! They are SO wonderful & made us feel completely at home!
We ventured to the waterfalls, a 30 minute drive from our home. So beautiful!
Last weekend we traveled 7 hours up to Penang to lead worship and share testimonies at 5 church services.
Night Feeding & sharing with a homeless ministry in Penang
OHHHH AND AND AND!! I got to go to one of my friend’s (who was one of my roommates in America) wedding!! She is from Malaysia and just returned back and got married!! The night I arrived to our ministry site, I found out I was only an HOUR AWAY from her wedding!! So after 3 years of not seeing her, I got to go to her WEDDING!!! how crazy!! What a blessing!
seriously! Still can’t believe we got to see each other IN MALAYSIA at her wedding!! woah!
Please be praying for my squad as we finish up our last few days of “debriefing” and head back home and transition back into American culture. 4 DAYS until we’re home!!
