I can hardly
believe it has been a full nine months since my race began. A few days ago we packed our bags, left the
jungles of Malaysia, and ventured on to our next destination – the Philippines. Our whole squad is staying together this
month in the town of Malaybalay, located on the island of Mindanao. We are partnering with a ministry called Kids
International Ministry. They have a
children’s home outside of Malaybalay on a plot of land that also serves as a
kids’ camp during the summer months.
Our ministry
here will consist of caring for the children and infants living at the home,
helping with construction on a guest dormitory for visiting missionaries and
other groups, and painting the whole exterior of the children’s home. There are also some opportunities outside of
the children’s home which include a prison ministry, hospital visitation, food
distribution to those in need, and a basketball league that we can participate
in (which I am totally stoked about!
Finally, a country that loves basketball!).
One of our
goals this month is to help individuals find what they are most passionate
about and get them plugged into that type of ministry. We have the freedom to pick which ministry
activities we would like to focus our efforts on. I am very excited about the many ways in
which we can serve these children and the surrounding community. I believe that we will be most effective if
each person works out of his or her giftings and strengths. I can’t wait to share with you all of the
stories about what God does this month as we continue to pursue Him with all of
our hearts, minds, strength, and passions!
