I’m alive.
I white water rafted
the Nile River.
I bungee jumped 145
feet over the Nile.
Let me tell you a little bit about these adventures. Our
squad got together and rafted the Nile
together. For those of you who don’t know, I am deathly afraid of water and
can’t swim. This trip has been all about stepping out of our comfort zones and
being uncomfortable. Well, I did just that.
First half of the river was fun. We floated right on through
all the class five rapids. No big deal. Rafts were flipping in front of us and
behind us but our river guide was leading us real well. At lunch everyone had
stories of falling out and their raft flipping and many were shocked that we
had all stayed in the boat. Then it happened…
We hit two massive waves head on and survived. I was pumped.
Then I saw another gigantic wave. Off went Chandler then Nikki in front of me. I knew my
time was coming and I held on for dear life. It didn’t work. Our boat flipped.
I hit my head on the raft, freaked out (panicked would also describe it) and
let go of the raft and my paddle. I was floating in the middle of these rapids
with no idea what was happening. I was confident I was about to meet the Lord.
BUT, good old Tricia saw me in my greatest panic and tossed her paddle at me, I
grabbed on, and she took me down the rapids to a kayaker.
I may be being
slightly dramatic by saying I thought I was going to see the Lord, but I was
the most scared I’ve ever been in my life. God sent me an angel, though, in the
form of Tricia and all is well. Once I was safely back in my raft I was able to
laugh. And the next rapid my half of the boat fell out and I was able to
successfully hold on to my paddle and the boat. I’d consider that a success.
Overall, a great experience that even had some team building. I’d recommend it.
Then a couple days later I had the opportunity to bungee
jump. Much less scary than the rafting for me. The height was no big deal. The
jumping over water freaked me out. It was amazingly freeing and I loved every
second of it.
God just reminded me over those two days of how amazing and
beautiful His creation is.
The Nile
is beautiful.
I can’t even explain
its splendor.
my mind with his majesty.
