Life is full of choices. We can choose what we eat. We get
to choose when we eat. I choose everyday what I’m going to wear. Then there are
the harder choices. Like where we want to attend university. Or is this the
right person to marry? And one of my personal favorite choices is my daily
attitude. This was put to test on Friday.
Our squad just finished up a five day debrief period of
rest, worship, teachings, and meeting with our coaches and some AIM staff.
Friday marked the end of our time in Kenya
and we were off to Rwanda.
No flight this time. We were off on a 28 hour bus ride. Sound like fun? My
friend Erin (Erin Thames is her name. You should check out some of her
blogs…she is awesome and God is rocking her world!) and I decided that we were
going to choose to have a positive attitude even though the circumstances would
make me (in my pre World Race life) frustrated. Take a look at parts of our
ride and see our chosen attitude…
REALITY – A really long 28 hour bus ride ahead of us
Chosen
attitude – What a great opportunity to share our testimonies with each other
REALITY – Broken seats in front of us that would only
recline therefore taking away any leg room
Chosen attitude – At least our seats
recline too and we can lay back
REALITY – Rare bathroom stops with the most wretched
smelling squatty potties
Chosen attitude – Well, we get to pee and
don’t have to go in a bottle
REALITY – One meal the whole ride – no breakfast, lunch, or
dinner
Chosen
attitude – Praise the Lord for extra Kenyan Shillings to purchase crackers and
chocolate
REALITY – Slim to no sleep due to the lack of beds or
mattresses
Chosen
attitude – A beautiful Ugandan sunset, amazing stars, and we crossed the Nile
River
REALITY – Waiting for an hour or two at the Rwandan border
in the heat for visas to be cleared
Chosen attitude – We got some extra time to
watch the Amazing Race season 17
REALITY – Bumpy African roads that make it nearly impossible
to journal or do Sudoku puzzles
Chosen
attitude – Let’s just be glad these roads are paved and not rocky dirt roads
REALITY – Taking off all our luggage to be searched at the
border before entering
Chosen
attitude – Hallelujah they didn’t make us take everything out and we got to
keep our plastic grocery bags even though they are illegal in Rwanda
REALITY – Cockroaches crawling all over us, our stuff, and
the bus when the sun was down
Chosen attitude – Chose not to see them and
pretend they were not around us
Is
your glass half empty or half full?
