I think reading those words, or hearing them if you watched the Father of Lights movie, are really hard for a lot of people to swallow. For some people it will be because they don’t hear that they are loved, for others it might be hearing that God is pleased with them instead of angry or disappointed. But I'm going to promise you that every word is completely and utterly true.
Now I don't have amazing words of wisdom, or something profound to go along with this. I'm not some Bible expert; I'm just learning all of this myself. But I do know that sometimes it's hard to believe that we are children of God. Sometimes it's hard to believe that we are pleasing to God even after all we've done and all we are still doing. Well we're wrong.
"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus," Galatians 3:26
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." Colossians 3:12 (emphasis added)
God is love. To His very core He is love. That's why we have the choice to love Him or not. He is not demanding. If He was He would force us to love Him. But we are given a choice. And from the second we choose to believe in the Lord and accept what Christ Jesus did for us we are saints. We are children of God.
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason that the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know what when He appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is." 1 John 3:1, 2
