When In Nicaragua…

  • A common meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner was tortillas, gallo pinto (rice and beans) and cheese.  Carbs on carbs as we liked to call it!

  • The currency in Nicaragua is called Cordobas.
  • The kids all want to learn how to say their Spanish names in English.
  • My team became a traveling band for ministry.

  • Lake Nicaragua, the extremely large fresh water lake in Nicaragua is one of the only lakes with fresh water sharks.
  • Tacos look a bit different.  They are rolled up fried tortillas filled with meat.
  • You can learn a lot of new Spanish worship songs.

  • The cheese is extremely salty.
  • They celebrate national holidays with 5am marching bands right by your front door.
  • You may find a donut shop down the road with the best donuts and perhaps get one every day for a straight week.
  • They serve meat over plantain chips for meals.

If you haven’t heard yet, I’ve been home safe since Sunday!  It’s still a bit surreal that my 11 months on the World Race have come to an end, but it is also really good to be home.  Thank you for all of your prayers and support while I was gone!

If you are interested, on Wednesday, August 3 from 7-9pm I am having an open house for any of you to stop by and hear more about my trip.  I’m hoping to be able to recreate a treat or two from the countries I have visited, have pictures to show and some of my fun souvenirs on display.

At 7:30pm I am going to do a sit down question and answer time where you can ask me any questions you would like about the year, but if you can’t make it by then feel free to still stop by and pull me aside to ask me any questions you may have!  I’d love to meet with each of you individually, but my time in Rockford is a bit limited with my new job in Minnesota starting in September, so this way I can hopefully guarantee to see those of you in IL at least once before my next adventure.  As for my MN friends, I’ll be seeing you all in September!  And please, still don’t hesitate to invite me to coffee if you’d like 🙂  I am so excited to share more about my journey with you and to hear what has been going on in your lives this past year as well.

The address for the open house is:

1617 Danielle Lane

Belvidere, IL 61008

See you all soon!
